project life | february edition

Today, Becky Higgins has asked everyone on the project life creative team to share what we submitted for our January assignments.   Going forward, you can expect these posts from us to go up on the 2nd Monday of the month. I will also continue to post about project life at various times though out the month.

First up are the follow up pages to the Disneyland/October Recap spread (shown below). I used the 6×6 squares page protector (Design F) for the first time here. It’s sort of a Best of October type of page – I enlarged two of my favorite photos of the month and also printed out 2 digital layouts that I made that month.

Some of you were curious to see what the back side of that page looked like and specifically how I integrated it with the following week, so here it is.  I utilized the space on the back side pretty much the same way I did with October and created a “best of November” page.  Originally I intended to use slots to display digital layouts I made in November but I didn’t scrap any pages that month! So I ended up choosing three favorite moments from that month and blowing those up to 6×6.

Design E is fast becoming one of my favorite page protectors, especially now that I’m printing and including more photos taken from my camera phone.  I’m super excited that Becky is working on a new page protector design that will have pockets sized perfectly for instagram photos.  Can’t wait!

The left and right sides together.

This is the beginning of my 2012 album.

Again, all of the photos on this page were taken with my iphone.  Did I mention already that I can’t wait for the instagram sized pocket protectors?

Be sure to stop by Becky Higgins’ blog to check out all of the creative team projects for the month of February.

I’m totally inspired!! Makes me want to drop everything and pull my pictures out… not to mention, find two cute girlies to photograph.

I adore the cohesiveness of your PL and scrapbooking style in general. Thank you for helping me figure out my own style. There is such beauty in simplicity. Are you still processing your photos with TRA Luxe? One problem I’m having is keeping my processing consistent.

Hi Julie,

I feel like I’m always tweaking my photo processing. I’m still using TRA – but I’m using RadLab (photoshop plugin) that makes it so much easier to experiment and play around with the different actions they offer. My faves are still grandma’s tap shoes and everything from their faded set mostly winter and autumn).

I love the style of your pages. I have a question how do you keep things so neutral.. your pictures are always so neutral. I dont get it. I have pics and of course there are colors my daughter loves pink etc son has lots of colors.. but some how your pages are a nice neutral I love that . Any ideas tips products you mainly use. Also How do the AC albums hold up for you over the WRMK ones or Pl ones. I know they are cheaper so I am SO TEMPTED im wondering about hold UP, and what do you do with that window in the front of your PL books?

Hi Annika,

I think it’s partly photo processing (I process photos that will be on the same spread at the same time, so they all have the same tones), partly the way that I take photos (I try to leave lots of breathing room/white space in my photos and I tend to avoid busy backgrounds). And when there are just too many distracting colors I usually change the photos to black and white.

Products, I stick with neutrals as well – lots of white, kraft paper, and the gird cards by becky higgins.

The American Crafts binder is holding up great! I haven’t used the We R Memory Keepers binders so I can’t compare the quality of either. I will be using a WRMK for one of my PL projects this year. The PL binders are made by WRMK, btw. Everyone raves about them!

For the front window I added a photo. Will try to take a photo of it for you soon.

Liz, i adore your PL project! The whole album is so inspiring. I love every piece of it 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration 🙂

so incredibly inspiring!!!!

Liz, love you PL. You are a big inspiration. 🙂 I’m so looking forward to new page protectors that will work with Instagram photos. I think they will be a BIG hit 🙂

Hi Liz,

Would love to know how do you print your photos for this album?
Do you use a home personal printer (which brand & type) or do you go to the professional to print them out?

Would love to see a blog entry about the step-by-step process of you making your album.

Thank you so much for the inspiration.
I just found out I’m pregnant. Hope I can start making these album as well. 🙂

Congratulations Wenny!

I send my photos to print, usually at Costco, though I think I might be ordering from Persnickety Prints more often going forward. I’m thrilled with the quality of their prints!

A step-by-step process? I’ll work on something for ya. 🙂

I love every page, looks gorgeous!

Liz,
Also thanks from me for the insight into your pages! I love the things you design so I have all conversations cards and the press cards. Have the binders, purchased a black one from the PL line and a AC one, have the pocket protectors in all sorts that I can possibly need and I’m paralyzed.

I’m intimidated. I look at all you women with fun pages and fun children and I’m scared my book will be boring. I don’t have children to write about and take cute pics with or stories to tell. I have 2 kids on 4 paws and 3 cats. I was ready in January to start and now it’s 6 weeks later and nothing has materialized. I suffer from failure anxiety. Will I rather leave the binder empty than halfway through discover that my life it’s not worth documenting? *sigh* I’m in serious distress and still I keep buying new stuff like I am really going to use it. What to do?

Hi Christine, not to hijack your comment, but I saw it and I just had to respond. I’ve been doing P365 since October 2010 and doing a LO each week. Only started using PL in January. Yes, I started in October! Nobody says you have to “catch up”. Nobody says you have to start in January. Don’t let your perfectionism keep you from doing something you might enjoy. Also, I only have a fun child around during the summer, but I do PL all year long. I’m fun. My husband is fun. My cat is super fun. I probably have more photos of her in my PL than people. And that’s ok! I promise you, if you just start taking photos regularly, you will start looking at things differently and you will see your world as the fascinating place that I’m sure it is.

Thanks for your reply Jen, it’s comforting to know I’m not the only one and will over come my fear of the empty book! I know that once I filled one week it will feel much better and not so much as a loser.

Thank you for remembering me that a year can be from May till May and doesn’t have to be Jan. – Jan.

I’m determined to start this week, if I do I promise to post my website for the probably much needed feedback 😉

Thanks for jumping in first Jen. Totally agree with everything you said. 🙂

Hi Christine,

I know exactly how you feel. I went through the exact same process last year – bought PL stuff in February but didn’t get around to making my first layout until late May because I was intimidated too. Didn’t know where to start, how I wanted my album to look, what I wanted the album to be even. The starting part is the hardest. It took me a few days to get a feel for it, I did a lot of rearranging and shuffling of photos, and then it finally clicked.

Totally agree with everything that Jen said below. Jump in now – start with last week (easy because the events are fresh in your mind), or start with a week or event that inspires you.

Have fun and let us know when you complete your first page! 🙂

u women are so supportive – i love this.

Hi Liz, since discovering your blog a few days ago, I am so excited to be slowly reading all your older posts. and i can see how your style has evolved – i love that. I wanted to ask how you convert to black and white? when i do it in photoshop, i adjust the curves but they don’t look as good as yours, lol. xx

I use Radlab (photoshop & lightroom) and VSCO (lightroom presets). Love them both!

Ok so it looks like you print your own journal cards because all of the PL cards are round corners. Where do you print your cards? How much is it if you don’t mind me asking?
