Hi everyone!! It’s Emily Merritt here sharing my Project Life album with you as a guest of the fabulous Paislee Press! I am a wife and a mother to three amazing little kids…and my family is the reason that I love this project so much. They are definitely the inspiration behind everything I do and everything I create.
I love to capture the little, everyday moments of life. It is these moments that I cherish the most. When my kids are grown and have families of their own, I want us all to be able to remember what life was like in our home and to reminisce on all of those moments that made us grow together as a family. I love that this project reminds me to pick up my camera and capture those little bits that are special to our family. I love that this project allows me to be creative too! That is why I keep a history of our family.
Today I’m going to share my week 33 spread with you. Summer is just flying by and this week was all about capturing some of our everyday summer activities, as well as crossing some things off our summer bucket list. For me I love my two page spread to be color cohesive and since my photos this week were kind of all over the place in terms of colors, I decided to stick with all black and white photos. My goal when I sat down to create this project was to have black and white photos that told a story, with lots of pops of color in the cards and elements I used.
This year I decided to just use two types of protectors, a Becky Higgins Design A and Design F to document my weeks so that I could keep everything uniform. I like keeping things uniform! I always start with a Big Number Week Card showing what week we’re on. I had so much fun going through all of my Paislee Press goodies to create this spread!
We had a funny moment this week when my son wouldn’t eat the dinner that I made for him. We had promised the kids we could play the Wii together as a family after everyone ate. My daughter wanted to play so badly that she went and spoon fed her little brother. I knew I had to pull out the camera to capture this moment and after taking probably ten photos, I got this one that captures the moment perfectly. The look on each of their faces! The Nom Nom card from pictures + words no.7 was perfect for this photo!
I create most of my cards digitally. For me it’s just easier and by adding a little drop shadow onto the photo in PS almost makes it look real! I am a huge washi tape lover, so adding some fun neon stripe washi on top completes the look. By using digital cards, I can also easily recolor any card. I knew that I wanted a pop of color on the “you are my everything” card. So I easily recolored it in PS using the hue/saturation mode.
I took some fun photos of my kids this week and wanted the bottom of this first page to document a couple of those photos. Again, I printed out the photo with a drop shadow already attached to the card, then attached the washi and tag afterwards.
I continued with the coral, teal and yellow color scheme on this second side. The black card with the flowers from you are loved was the perfect way to tie all the colors together! I added the “my happy place” from presslines no. 18 was the exact sentiment I wanted for the week. My home, my kids, my husband are my happy place and whenever we’re together is the most special moments to me.
I wanted to document our summer morning schedule a bit in the fact that our son Jeremy is always, always the first one awake. He jumps in our bed and quietly plays with his toys or just snuggles with us until we get up. But as for our daughter, she is always the last one to wake up. I took photos of them both one morning and I’m sure I’ll be grateful to remember this little bit of our summer as they grow up.
We’re huge Duck Dynasty fans here at our house so when they had their new season premiere this week our friends invited us over for a little party. Although I love the DD crew, I’m not a fan of camo and didn’t really want it appearing in our album. So I went with a simple “hey” card designed by myself and a photo of our littlest with a beard mask. I added in a little olive green since it went with my color scheme and has the feel of camping, hunting without being camo. 🙂
We decided to cross “find a waterfall” off our summer bucket list this weekend and it was so much fun exploring with the family. I created the little 3 pocket spread to remind us how much fun we had together that day. Behind the middle photo is a card with journaling on it from our fun day.
And the whole reason I do this project…it makes my heart so happy when my children want to pull out our family albums and look at them. Nothing is better than that!!
Thank you so much for letting me share my project with you today! You can always follow me on my blog, facebook, instagram or pinterest. Have a fabulous week capturing your own special moments! Emily
