Hi everyone! It’s Carly here and today I’m going to share with you a little peek into my mini highlights album for 2015. This year I didn’t document as much as I would have liked, but I still wanted to create something that captured the highlights from the year so I decide to create a mini album. This album solely focuses on my girls, but I have one more mini album in which I captured our family’s 2015 story.

For this album I started by gathering my favourite photos of my girls from throughout the year and then looked back on my journalling to find the little stories that happened over 2015 that I wanted to include in the album.

The main purpose of this mini album is to be a time capsule for all those little details from the year that make my girls special and that tell the story of who they are at this particular moment in time. For me this is what makes documenting such a gift, capturing those little details that over the years will tell your bigger story.

I really wanted to keep the album simple and easy to put together so I used the 3×4 minimalist photo templates as my base and from there I just added my photos and notes. I then printed two 3×4 photo templates on 4×6 photo paper, cut in half, hole punched two holes on the side and used binder rings to hold everything together.

After my album was pulled together, I added a few embellishments here and there throughout the pages. I always add my embellishments at the very end because if I tried to think about decorating my pages earlier in the process I would become unfocused and it would probably take me twice as long to finish my project.

For me, when it comes to documenting the focus is always first on the photo and telling the story. After I have accomplished that I can put some attention on dressing up the pages and making things look more pretty. Adding a little wood veneer embellishment is almost always my go-to for dressing up a page.

So there it is, one of my mini highlights album for 2015! I decided that I didn’t need to wait until the end of December to create my highlights books because I’m doing a December Daily this year and that will pretty much cover anything I would have missed documenting from the last month of the year.

Have a really wonderful week everyone!

– Carly

Other products I used in my mini include: xoxopictures + words vol.3about us and loved + other sentiments.
