in progress: project 365 album (2009)

Remember these pages?

The beginnings of my 2009 project 365 album. Or so I thought at the time.

The approach was supposed to be simple – one photo + journaling per page. But the journaling part got me. Trying to remember what happened on a particular day ended up being too much of a challenge for me – I didn’t have the energy to follow through.

This past weekend, I revisited the project and decided it was time to try a different approach. I still want to include journaling. But I will only include it for the days that I have something to write about. I’m not going to force it. For most of the photos, the basic information (who, what, when, where) will do.

I’m happy that I got the ball rolling on this album again.

So far I have 14 pages completed and will be sharing some of the pages for this sunday’s blueprints: conversations in album design post. I will also be sharing a few P365 albums from readers that have caught my eye – if you haven’t done anything with your P365 photos, seeing these will surely inspire!

For those of you that did turn your photos into albums (or other creative projects), I’d love to see it for possible inclusion in an upcoming post. Post a link in the comments section or send me an email. And for those of you that haven’t done anything with your photos, I’d love to hear from you too. What’s keeping you from turning your photos into an album. Is it lack of inspiration? Lack of time? Something else altogether?

As always, thanks for stopping by. 🙂 I’ll be back later tonight with another designer crush spotlight + an uber cool giveaway.

I emailed you. 😉

The journaling was hard for me, too. Keep at it…getting a book done and published for a whole year is so rewarding!

Hi Gina! I got your email and will definitely be showcasing your project on sunday. Thank you for sharing your beautiful album with us!

Your creativity blows me away! I love the simplicity and elegance of these pages!

Jacinda has an excellent P365 blog. She completed 2009 and had it made into a book and is working on 2010 with a slightly different approach- more coordinating pages and each week seems to have a theme. Very inspiring! You can see her blog here: http://digikiwichick365.blogspot.com/

Gabi is doing P365 hybrid style using the Becky Higgen's kit. You can see her posts about it on her blog here: http://gabirytirova.typepad.com/daily_something/project-365/

Both of these ladies are very inspiring to me. I can't seem to decide which way to go with my P365 and I don't always have a photo each day but I'm trying!
Liz- I LOVE how your photos all seem to have the same tones and feel. Is this done through your RAD Actions or are the original photos shot in similar light, etc.? Would love to learn more about this as well with keeping photos as well as pages somewhat coordinating or blending well.

oh i hear ya on the journaling, that's what gets me as well. this year what's been helpful (so far) is using the 365project website and doing quick journaling bits there, this way when i go back to either scrap the photos individually or as a whole 365 album, i'll have the bits already there. my brain is mushy, so when i have to go back and try to remember…. it's not pretty! xo

@cindy – thank you!

@molly – thanks for the links to jacinda's and gabi's blogs. I did run TRA actions on my photos to get the same tones. I will definitely do a post and to into detail on how to create a cohesive look with photos, thanks for suggesting it!

@Lauren – lol! your p365 website sounds like a great way to store/keep track of journaling bits! I was doing that on my private journal but was very inconsistent about it so I ended up with LOTS of journaling on certain days, and nothing for most of the days. sigh.

That would be great Liz! I’ve tried doing this with Lightroom but it seems like if the lighting isn’t exactly the same then the effects are all different. Guess I need to learn more about actions!

I started 365 this year. It is working well. I have not fussed too much with the photos or lots of journaling. Each day is as it comes. It is sized to print 8×10 with Blurb.

I was worried about trying to make it all look cohesive with actions too, because they are all different sorts of photos. So I haven't bothered.
I've enjoyed it so much I'm going back to 2009 and doing whatever I took – it will be a couple of photos per week. Much easier than trying to scrap all the sundry photos.
I have been very influenced by your clean style and used an old freebie template by ksharonk

Oh Liz, these are absolutely stunning!

Your photos are gorgeous! I made an album of my 2009 photos. You can check it out here: http://community.shutterfly.com/gallery/post/start.sfly?postId=/gallery/1/post/GMGDBg5Zs2blowYAmHXAFI

glad to see that you're picking up on your project again. it's beautifully simple. i really adore your style. and i agree with not forcing journaling. that's always the hardest for me….not sure why. the pictures are so much easier. i like to think of them as visual journaling. i can look at a photo and instantly remember the feeling behind it. i do like to put a few sentences down and a date but that's it for me. anyhooo, happy weekend to you!

@Molly – you should be able to achieve the similar results with lightroom. Are you shooting in raw?

@esther – your album is exquisite! I love the format you used, clean, simple and elegant. What a treasure you've created!

@zallaine – thanks!!

@rachel – your album is beautiful. I love that you approached it from the weekly format. Your album is beautiful tribute to your 365 project.

@tina – I find it hard to believe that any part of scrapbooking can be hard for you. 🙂 Thank you so much for your kind words, you know that I completely adore everything you do!

No- not always RAW but I have started to try and only shoot in RAW. Seems like I get VERY good results if natural light but not so great indoors or with flash. I guess that's to be expected but was still hoping there was a way to make them look more similar. I probably just need to do less point and shoot and more DSLR-RAW shots.

Molly – good for you! I think shooting in raw is best because most of the LR presets are designed to work best with RAW files. And regarding the indoor, low light situations – I struggled with the exact same issue all of last year because I used my DSLR like a point and shoot – my camera was always set to aperture priority. It wasn't until the beginning of this year that I finally started shooting in manual mode. OMIGOSH Molly!! The quality of the photos is unbelievable when you can set your own ISO and exposure!!

I'll see if I can dig up some photos to show you the difference.

I'll be back, if not later tonight, then before the weekend is over. 🙂
