Hello everyone, it’s Carly here today to share one of my most favourite things to document, our home. Documenting the details of our home has always been important to me because I think it gives you wonderful little reminders of what life looked like.
When I look back at old family photos, I love to examine all the little details in each picture. For me, it is those little details that trigger my memories of what our life was like. I love to see the room that I grew up in, and how our backyard looked, and even the pictures we had on our walls. For me, it’s like puzzle pieces that begin to tell a much bigger story.
Over the years our family has moved a lot. Just in the past 5 years alone we’ve moved 4 times and if I didn’t document our homes they would most definitely become just a blur. Documenting each of our houses in pictures and words now allow us to revisit those memories at anytime, which is especially important given that the house itself is gone.
When I document my home, I like to capture the little things I see and do on a daily bases. My kitchen sink, boots at the backdoor, a stack of mail in our entry, or even a basket of laundry. It’s all those little details that make our home uniquely ours.
Even if you’ve lived in your home for 30+ years just think about how it has changed over time. How it’s changed with your kids getting older, or through the years of redecorating and renovations, and so on.
Our homes have this amazing way of reflecting what our “real” life looks like, so embrace it, even when it’s messy! And for those that might be wondering, I do have many Project Life pages that capture the mess as well. It’s all good stuff when it comes to documenting. 🙂
Have you documented the details of your home yet? If so, what are some of the details you like to capture?

Love this! I do wish I had photos of my childhood bedroom. I now make sure I capture snippets of our home but you’ve inspired me to intentionally make a photo book during these summer holidays in Australia – beautiful natural light early in the morning! Thanks for sharing your ideas.
