More often than not I’m a less is more girl. I’m big on eliminating the fluff and focusing on the good stuff…. photos and words.
And even then I sometimes think that that’s too much.
This week I started by printing out my photos and I realized that this little group of them really did tell a story all on their own. No words needed. Three of them depicted just small, random everyday things about our morning chores, while the other two showed a typical evening.
I had just printed out the new By the Hour journaling cards and decided to just create a simple photo collage with the “am” card, “pm” card and my photos.
I absolutely could have left room for words and embellishments but I was totally digging this photo essay look. I love that at a glance I can see a visual glimpse into our day. Now, this spread came about organically but I’d love to take this concept and record my day with this in mind. Or maybe a pocket for every hour of the day… or everyday of the week. Just a visual overview.
While creating this spread I realized that it’s okay to step back from certain elements of memory keeping. It’s okay to keep it simple and mix it up. Maybe you don’t have a written story you want to include. Maybe you don’t have a photo of what you want to record so you include a spread that’s nothing but text. Whatever it is (for you) it’s fun to sometimes try something new and look at your life in a new light!
