hello new printer

My old wireless printer stopped playing nice with me a long time ago. I finally buckled and ordered a new one based on a recommendation from Peppermint.

Totally in love with it! It’s a Canon Pixma MG6320. It’s white and I love it.  It’s wireless (that was a must) and airprint ready (nice perk, now we can print from our iphone/ipad).  It also has a scanner/copier function, something I didn’t think I would use because my current scanner works just fine. But it’s not wireless. And it’s usually stored away in a drawer.  Not a bit deal, I just have to take it out of the drawer and plug it in. But that extra step is what keeps me from scanning things right away. The printer/scanner is always out and ready to go.  Total game changer. I have a feeling that I will be scanning in the girl’s artwork on a much more regular basis.

So far I’ve only printed two sets of journaling and those turned out beautifully.  It was able to handle the thicker cardstock just fine so I’m thrilled about that.

On a whim I decided to paint the espresso trim on the wall to a white color.

To the left of the printer I plan on adding an additional billy bookshelf, with a door, to store printing supplies and maybe project life supplies.  And because everything along this wall is being shifted slightly, I’ll probably have to redo the photo collage arrangement above the file cabinets. Will share photos when it’s all done. Happy weekending friends!  What projects are you working on?

I have the Canon Pixma MG5320, the predecessor to yours. I love mine! Printing at home = my favorite. 🙂

I’m excited about printing from home! 🙂

That is the most awesomest looking printer! Thanks for the review, I’ll be taking a hammer to mine now;)

Hey Liz,
How did you get it set up wirelessly?

The scanner portion you mean? Once the printer is recognized on your wireless network, then all the features should be accessible wirelessly. I use the scanner via image capture. 🙂

thanks so much for the review… putting this one on my birthday wish list.
I really need to get scanning my kids artwork… I’m wondering how large the scanning bed is?
thanks again!

The scanner can handle up to A4, a little larger than letter size.

Once you get a wireless printer, things will never be the same! Having a wireless printer is now non-negotiable for me!

Are you photo printing on this as well? Or just regular & card printing?

Right? I can’t imagine going back. I do plan on printing photos as well, just haven’t done so yet. 🙂

Is there an easy/convenient way to print those little photos that make up your collage? Or did you have to design it on photoshop and cut them out? I’ve been eyeing this printer!

The easiest way is to order with Persnickety Prints, they offer 5×5 prints. If you want the white border you can do that too, by choosing that option.

Liz, I have so many questions. I recently bought this EXACT printer (I love the white). I’m having trouble as it is very loud and slow, is something wrong with mine? I posted on the SC boards however did not have any luck finding anyone that has this exact printer. Am I doing something wrong? I’d appreciate any feedback or advice, also trying to determine if 8×10 is the biggest photo it will print, does that sound right? Thanks!!!

Hi Audra,

The reviews at Amazon did mention that this printer is louder than previous models so it might be normal? I have the printer set on quiet mode and it’s fine – not any louder than my previous printer (an epson workfoce 40).

Liz,

I just purchased the same printer and it’s great! May I ask what weight of cardstock you have used? I’m uncertain about using anything too thick. Also, do you know if it’s possible to feed paper through the back instead of using the cassettes?

Thanks!

Katie

Hi Liz,

I’m on the fence buying this printer as well.

I was just wondering about your experiences printing photos – you mentioned only having printed journaling cards in this article.

Usually, I get my photos printed at a pro photo lab. I’m extremely satisfied with their quality. However, I hate waiting and am wondering about printing the photos by myself.

Do you also print your photos with the printer? If so, what about the quality?

Thank you so very much!

Best regards,
Heike

I recently started printing photos on the Canon and i am amazed with the quality! Clear, crisp images and great colors! I will still print the bulk of my photos through photo labs but I love the convenience of being able to print out a few here and there as I need them (or when I’m too impatient to wait for the photo lab)!

How did you change the shelves on the billy bookcase to display your magazines?

Ikea has a magazine rack bracket designed for the Billy. Just use an existing Billy shelf and prop it with the brackets in the kit. Hope that helps!

Hi Liz-

I am just getting started with Project Life and bought some of your journaling cards. I am printing them on my Canon Pixma (one model older than yours, I believe) and I was wondering if you print from Preview, from Photoshop, or from another program. I noticed that the prints from Preview are much more vibrant, but still not as vibrant as I would like. Do you do anything to optimize the color, or just push print? Also, what kind of cardstock you like. I’d like to get these thing right before I print a lot of them. Cheers! Courtney

I print from photoshop, select “Photoshop Manages Colors” and color profile sRGBIEC61966-2.1.

I print on Pure White (cover weight) cardstock from paper source: http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/color/8-1-2-x-11-Cover/2505.131/833.html

Hope this helps!
