Working with Peppermint was nothing short of an incredible, and at times, intimidating experience. See, this girl can do it all. She can design, she can scrap, she can bake, she can sew, she can write. Boy, can she write.
Peppermint’s gift for writing, and this quote by Maya Angelou is the inspiration behind our kit. You can read about Peppermint’s journaling chronicles here.

Journaling reads: I know you’re growing up, I know one day I’ll have to finally let go of the urge to wrap you in bubble wrap before you leave the house every day – but I’m not ready yet. When I found out you were going to be spending 5 days in Washington D.C. with your dad I didn’t know if I could withstand it. You were so excited, I didn’t want to tarnish that with my anxiety. But you called me halfway through your trip. We were in the car returning home from dinner, and everything else ceased to exist. I don’t even know how we made it home, I was on auto-pilot, enamored with the sound of your voice on the other end of that phone while you filled us in on everything you’d seen and done. It sounded amazing, so many of your dreams were coming true and I held it together, careful not to let on that a part of my soul was out there with you and it was crying out for you to return home. I counted the seconds until your plane touched down in Minneapolis three days later, and you called me from the car to let me know that you were back in town. When I told you I would pick you up after work I could hear the disappointment in your voice. I joked that you could have your dad drop you off at my office, not believing that you’d take me up on the offer on the tail-end of such a fun-filled adventure, and when I heard you turn away from that phone and ask your dad if that was okay I thought my heart might explode from an overload of love. I paced in front of that door waiting for you to pull into the parking lot, and the car had barely stopped moving before you flew out the door and up into my arms. It sounds so melodramatic now, it was just a vacation for Pete’s sake! But in that instant I knew that there would never be another person who would need me like that. That my presence would never be missed by anyone else the way that it was missed by you, and that no one else on Earth could have been exactly what you needed right then. No one else could have stood in my place. Over the course of filling me in on the rest of your trip, you told me that after you called me the other night you hung up the phone and cried. Cried for me, because I was so far away. Then you teared up right there just telling me about it and we were such a pitiful sight, rocking back in forth in my office chair, a tangle of arms hugging one another. Another one of those moments that remind me that it’s all worth it – all the sleepless nights, the arguments, the ups and downs. The moments where all you want is your mom, and the moments where I know there’s nothing in the world I would rather be.
Dude. She makes me want to be a better writer. And a better designer. She doesn’t know it yet, but I’ve already got dibs on her for another collab.
