in progress: our no schedule summer

I’m happy to report that this Type-A, cannot-function-without-a-schedule-control-freak, is surviving our no schedule summer. Most surprising? Our days have been relaxing, fun and even…productive. Maybe what my husband has been trying to tell me all these years really is true: sometimes no pre-planning is required for things to work out nicely.

Lots of crafting is happening right now. Madeline is drawing and reading. Audrey is obsessed with rainbow looming. And me?

I’m working on filling in the gaps in our 2013 Project Life album. My goal is to wrap this one up before the end of summer.

I’m working on making the album more interactive with QR codes so we can watch video clips as we flip through the album. As much as I love photographs, there’s nothing quite like being able to hear their voices.

And lastly, I’m finally knitting the last round of this infinity scarf that I started back in March. Cannot wait to see this finished scarf. Crossing fingers that I don’t mess up the bind off.

I love the addition of QR codes right on the prints! On one of your older posts, you mentioned using a video archive in your album. Did you just include a DVD at the end of the year?

Yes, just a DVD with a simple printout of the video thumbnails. 🙂

So great! We do the same with our summers. We plan fun little trips but our days are not scheduled. Can you share how you do the QR codes? I would love to do that with the girls childhood albums. I had been planning on burning all of our little videos to a DVD and then adding it in a sleeve to the album. I think both would be an awesome idea for archiving. And the codes allow you to view the video right away!

Yes, I like that the QR code enables us to watch the videos instantaneously. Creating the QR codes is quick! Just upload your video to an online site (I’m using vimeo), grab the link and us a QR code generator (lots of free ones online) to create a code. I’ll share a more in-depth post of the process next week!

Love the drawing! Super cute!

Lol, thank you. I am quite fond of the way she illustrates hair. 🙂

love!

Thanks so much Heather!

Love all your pictures Liz and the idea of not having a schedule sounds delightful! We too are trying to just take it easy this summer after a couple of years of non-stop moving. Sometimes you just need to stay in your pj’s and have fun! Here’s to a summer full of unscheduled fun! 🙂

Looking forward to seeing how you document your summer Carly! Enjoy getting settled in quickly! xoxo.

Liz! video+QR code is brilliant! But then again, I don’t expect anything less from you!

Aw, thanks Cindee 🙂

Those photos of your girls are priceless, Liz! Beautiful everyday storytelling!

I love the look of your scarf. Do you use a pattern for it? I would love to learn how to knit this year.

Happy summer!!

Thanks so much Gabi! Yes, i’m using a pattern for the scarf, it’s the gaptastic cowl by Jen Geigley: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gap-tastic-cowl

Have fun with it! I just started knitting in January and it’s been FUN!!!

Thank you for the link, Liz!! I have to try it, it looks really awesome!
