make something (February edition)

#makesomething \ a monthly challenge with Peppermint of One Little Bird

One of our goals in 2014 is to make more scrapbook pages. We each have different reasons for wanting this. I didn’t do enough “creating for fun” last year. My mentality was why bother wasting spending time on something if it wasn’t going into an album (project life or a photobook)  in progress? I’m changing things up this year, giving myself space to create pages just for the sake of playing. Hopefully this monthly challenge will help me stick it out through the end of the year.

Here are my February entries.

1. A 12×12 digital layout (click on image for product/supply info).

2. 8.5×11 collage of all the photos I instagrammed in February.  This is going into my 2014 Project Life Album, which I’ll talk about in more detail later this week.

3. 8.5×11 digital layout (Printed and ready to go into my 2014 Project Life album).

4. 8.5×11 collage of instagrammed photos in January. Originally I cut the 2×2 photos and placed them in a coin page protector but after I printed out February’s instagram collage yesterday, I think I like the way it looks as the full page with the white borders – not trimmed.  I can easily just slip it into a regular 8.5×11 page protector. Also, I like the look of one enlarged photo so I redid January. Both versions are posted below.

I can’t make up my mind which version I like better. What I do know is that I am loving putting together these instagram collages. They take less than 10 minutes to complete, printing time included. Even if I get nothing else scrapped, these collages work provide a nice summary of monthly events and just like that I feel instantly “caught up” for that month.

What did you make in February?

Liz – I love this concept. I design stationery for my work, so sometimes “creating” for myself feels a little… indulgent (or something). But isn’t that why we all do this? Precisely because we enjoy it? Thanks for the reminder 🙂

Yes, that’s exactly how I felt last year Catherine, “indulgent” when I was creating purely for myself. I was under constant (self imposed) pressure to devote more time to designing for my shop. Techhnically it’s all creative, but it feels different, kwim? I felt so burnt out by the end of the year because I didn’t allow myself to make things just for fun so this year I’m focusing on trying to find a better balance between creative work and creative play. 🙂

[…] is sharing her second page today on her blog, as well – so be sure to stop over and soak up her amazingness. (Her photos make me feel […]

Liz,
Are you doing Project Life on a monthly basis this year as well?

It’s sort of monthly, I suppose? I think I’m going to focus more on “events” rather than days of the week. It feels more natural for me to organize and document this way. PL seems to coming together much faster this way. I don’t know if it’s just because I needed a change of scenery/format to get “unstuck” or if this really is just a better fit. I’m still in the process of figuring it out right now.

Thanks for that Liz. At the moment, I’m really struggling to find my ‘groove’ with PL and I can’t decide whether switching over to monthly will help. I really do love the structure that weekly spreads give me, but I can’t help but think maybe I need something new. And I’m one of those people who can’t ‘start’ until I have it all figured out… argh! Please keep sharing your lovely work, it is always inspiring for me to see your pages. 🙂

Love the Instagram collages! One question though- what do you put on the back?

If I go with the coin page protector the back side will probably be February’s instagrams. Add a Jan/Feb tab to the edge of the page and it’ll work as a month divider.

Love the Instagram collages. Is that template for sale in the shop?

It’s not but I can work on getting in the shop by early next week Valerie.

Believe it or not, you can make almost anything fit into 140 characters or less if you’re willing to
get a little creative. Here you are free to see, like,
follow, share and chat with many people ranging from top celebrities and popular stars to businessmen and common people
of the world. If that happens, you won’t be able
to get anywhere.

Hey there! I simply would like to give you a huge thumbs up for your great info you’ve got right
here on this post. I’ll be coming back to your blog for more soon.
