Earlier today I posted a photo on instagram asking if I should paint the wood detailing here or leave it alone.
My gut feeling is to go all white but I’m afraid that I might regret painting over the espresso stained trim. The espresso trim/wood detail is scattered throughout the room so the OCD side of me thinks that if I paint over the espresso trim in one area, I need to do the same to ALL the trim.
Here’s a better perspective of the wall.
Another wall of “wood”. I am most definitely painting this white. Again though, not sure what I should do with that espresso trim. I’d also like to redo the top of my desk. White would be awesome of course. Just not sure how to do it. Yet.
I’d really like to get started on this project but I can’t because of my indecisiveness. I could use a little bit of guidance right about now. What would you do?
whatever color you paint it i would definitely keep the trim the espresso color. it’s too pretty to paint over!
Right? I kinda of think so too! Thanks Mindy!
I say paint it ; )
Doing it soon, thanks for weighing in Elizabeth 🙂
White paint, leave the espresso trim, red accents around the room. I’m quick to give advice when it’s not my own space- ha! Want to weigh-in on mine? 🙂
LOL, why is it always easier to give advice on other people’s spaces? Funny that you brought up the red accents, I was thinking that too! You’re reading my mind…or I’m reading yours HA! 🙂
Love this idea, Teresa!
I think white would be fab. I would leave the dark trim!
Thanks Lor! I’m leaning towards leaving the trim alone. 🙂
I say paint it white or a white with a whisper of a grey or linen. Can’t wait to see what you decide!
oooooh, i like that Liza, thanks!
Paint the lighter wood and leave the expression trim.
Lighter wood be gone. Now I just need to summon up the courage to go through with it. It’s just paint right? 🙂
Go white! Let your beautiful photos pop!
Aw, thanks Natalie!
All white would look great. Trust the Scandinavians. 🙂
Just to clarify: I’d paint over the espresso too. Would look more modern. But my style is different from other people so you might not want to trust my opinion. 🙂
I think my aesthetics are smiliar to yours – I definitely gravitate towards modern and minimalist. Maybe I should be painting over the espresso trim!
dude. white or the palest grey. on everything except the bottom of the desk. i would let that be the focal point and splash your favorite color around the room 😉 but you know me…simple to a fault LOL
JAN. Omg, I was so going to call you to get your advice on this. You know I can’t seem to make any style/design decisions on this room without your input. Thank you!!!
I’m definitely leaving the bottom of the tanker desk alone but I’m dying to replace the table top for an all white surface, I’m just not confident in my own DIY skills. Can you come over and help? 🙂
you could always put white contact paper on it and then get a glass top to cover it. i know oil based white paint would be a good option, too, but with paint (and as much wear and tear as a desk goes through) i would get some glass for the top of it. what is the top made out of anyway? if it’s wood then you could strip it and put some kind of distressed finish on it. i was thinking…for the trim, you could paint it pale grey, leave the walls white and then you could still get the effect of the contrast of trim/walls but it would be more tonal/subtle…more to your taste… 🙂 you should call or lemme know when you’re free. we move in a week but i think i could squeeze you in ;D
The desktop is compressed wood with laminate. I’m thinking of going over the existing laminate with a white laminate sheet? Not sure I’ll be able to pull it off.
Can’t believe you’re moving in in a week! Good luck and hope you get settled in quickly!
I say paint it, but my husband says not to… of course, I also had him paint our dresser purple…
LOL, so funny Dawn! So all the men have said “leave it alone.”
My two cents: white! (but I’m an all white girl with colored accents ;- yeah trust the scandinavians and dutch, lol). Also like the idea of a warm grey trim. If you want a feel for what it will look like: photoshop is your friend! 🙂
Leontien, I’m an all white girl too and I love scandanavian interiors. I’m this much closer to going for it, thanks so much for your input!
I’ll tell you what I would do…Pull the photos into Photoshop and paint them the colors you are considering. It works even better when you use color overlays so you can still see the the wood grain coming through. It won’t be perfect, but it will give you some idea what it will look like. (I’m leaning to paint everything in white and grey tones.)
I’m thinking that I like the espresso trim as is – it creates a frame for the space. sorry, probably not helping. lol
I say paint all the non-trim and then see what you think. You can always go back and paint the trim later. I’m super indecisive about things like this, and that’s what I would do. Baby steps. 🙂
paint out the panelling and see what you think of it with the trim – no big deal to go back over the trim after.
