Changing my mind, again.

Funny how much our perspectives can change with each passing day.

This is the photo I originally posted for February 18, 2010 to my project 365 album:

I supposed the choice was fine but when I went back to look at the other photos taken that day, I don’t know why I settled on that particular photo. Especially when there were other photos that captured defining details (like the stuffed bear) of the day.

I ended up changing my photo of the day pick to this one.

Because when I look at this photo, I immediately remember that this was they day Harold (bear by sleepyking) came in the mail. The 1st photo didn’t jog that memory for me.

And then I scrapped.

Something else I’m excited to share with you: I’m done with my January and February Project 365 pages! Well, mostly done. I’m done with the photo-a-day spreads but I also want to include some of the photos that didn’t make pick of the day. I haven’t quite figure out how to incorporate them in the album, but I’ve got a few ideas I want to try out. Once I flush this out you can be sure that I’ll be sharing it with you!

I can’t tell you how many times I ended up changing my photo of the day picks while working on my January and February pages. Choosing one photo to define your day can be a challenging one. Some days I might have 10+ shots that I love and other days, I end up with 20+ images that are….meh.

I’m curious to know, how do you go about selecting your photo of the day?

love the photo … love the story behind the photo … thanks for sharing the process!

thanks so much Laura! <3

I agree that it is tempting to choose the most attractive photo or technically superior photo, but like you I prefer the most meaningful photo. When I look back at my 365 album I love the stories that it tells. Yesterday I captured some lovely bird shots, but my potd was of my new wacom tablet that arrived in the mail!

I've had the same issue on some days trying to decide which photo to use. Mostly I go for the strongest story telling photo, but then some days have more than one 'story' and that choice is hard too.

I don't think I have ever had just one photo per day (and then there are the days with none…). I am taking this project as a year in photos (all became a bit too hard, especially with the recent death of the little point and shoot which was mostly always on had to snap a shot).
Anyway would LOVE to see some of your Jan and Feb pages, and can't wait to see how you come up with an idea to capture the "story" with the rest of the photos.

I'm so happy that I've found your blog. Your work is amazing!
Thanks for the inspiring photography!

I am actually sitting here right now trying to figure out which photo I will choose…thank you for your insight…it's helped me choose the one of my little guying holding his new favorite toy…a memory I want to capture…even though there was one of him looking at me with beautiful bright eyes…the way I look at it is I can still scrap both photos, but the the POTD photo should convey some meaning and should jog my memory while looking back at it. thank you for letting me think out loud…LOL! BTW, your photos are just gorgeous!
