Is that journaling on your page?

Yea. It’s crazy really because writing has always been my bane. I think you all know how much I dread writing. I run from it, ignore it, glare at it. Heck, I’ve probably cursed at it a few times too.

A year ago, I would have called this page DONE. It has photos, a date, a title, a few elements splashed across the page. What else could I possibly need?

Lately, I’ve found myself thinking that a page isn’t complete until I include my voice, tell a story. I grumbled a little, then proceeded to draw a text box on the page and started typing.

I had no idea what I wanted to say when I started typing. I think I literally wrote something along the lines of: Hhhmmm. What am I going to write about? Does this page look better with text along the side like this?

Typing out the first thing that popped into my head, no matter how silly, sophomoric or nonsensical, helped me warm up. (And trust me, I need all the help I can get in this department.) Most of the time, I’m so busy censoring and editing myself that I never get to the story, let along through it. So warm up, and don’t over think it.

After a few minutes (maybe longer?) of typing out nonsense, it occurred to me why the words “the wallflowers” kept running through my head. Epiphany! It was an awesome feeling.

I turned this layout into a layered template, which is now available for purchase as part of my newest layered templates set.

…..

Introducing: press packet No.1

I’m trying something a little different with today’s release. This set includes 4 layered templates and the elements (handwritten wordart, etc.) are also included as individual png files so you can easily use them over and over again. The templates feature lots of white space and are designed to help you pull together layouts that showcase your photos + words. On two of the templates, I left my journaling in the file instead of swapping them out with the standard “your journaling here” placeholders.

Press packet No. 1 is 20% OFF thru Thursday, May 13th. Presslist subscribers get an additional 10% OFF the sale price. Be on the lookout for your newsletter or sign up HERE.

Totally love these templates! Already picked them up! Thanks!

OK, I'm new to your blog, so please forgive me, but… Hello… you WRITE a blog! 🙂 What's the difference in writing the blog and writing on your layouts? YOU ARE A WRITER. I often copy and paste stories about my little boys directly from my blog posts onto my scrapbook pages – whether it's just a little funny one-liner from my five-year-old, or a complete run-down of my 1-year-old's doctor visit. Take your last post about Madeline and the bookshelf. You could totally use those sentences for journaling on a page about her and her room. 🙂

Thank you Leah, Soco, Marta, Helen and Sarah!

Jenny – HELLO new-ish blog reader, I love seeing you here! You are so right: writing is writing is writing. And I dread it, whether it is on my blog or on my layouts. I may write on my blog, but I don't consider myself a writer. And if you knew how much time it took me to write my posts, you would understand why I dread it so, ha! If I had it my way, all my blog posts would be probably be photo-only. But like with anything else, the more your practice, the easier it becomes. Thank you for your vote of confidence and for your suggestions. 🙂

Your templates are amazing, Liz! I'm loving how you included the wordart and I'm a fan of journaling, though I don't do it too well on my pages. Still, the inspiration here is amazing! 🙂
