Quick Album FAQ’s

quick album > add your photos + text > upload to shutterfly

Are you new to digital scrapbooking and want to know how quick pages work? Are you a seasoned scrapper and just have few questions about uploading to shutterfly? Well you’ve come to the right place! Please take a moment to review the FAQ’s I’ve compiled.

1. How do I use quick pages?
First, you will need a photo editing program that can handle transparent (.png) files and layers. There are numerous programs available for you to choose from. Most of the programs listed below offer free trial versions.

Adobe Photoshop Elements (good for beginners)
Adobe Photoshop CS3 (advanced, high learning curve)
ACDSee Photo Editor (good for beginners, but most digiscrap actions and templates won’t work in it)
Corel Paint Shop Pro (good for beginners, but most digiscrap actions and templates won’t work in it)
Microsoft Digital Image Pro (DIP)
Foto Fusion
Memory Mixer

If you choose to download a trial version of photoshop, I have a quick pages tutorial (includes quick page that you can download for free):

2. How do I upload my layouts to Shutterfly?
For step-by-step instructions on how to properly upload your finished layouts, see these instructions posted on Shutterfly:

3. What’s the MOST IMPORTANT thing to remember at Shutterfly when doing my album that I would never think to ask?

Remember to TURN OFF the VividPics function!! VivicPics is their auto correct function. While it’s great for photos it will wreak havoc on the textures and color tone of the layout. (This rule holds true for ALL digital layouts you upload, not just the quick pages that I offer).

Here’s how you turn off the VividPics funtion once you’ve uploaded your photos and and created your photobook on Shutterfly.

1. Make sure you are in the EDIT mode. Double click on the layout you want to edit.

2. An EDIT PICTURE window will appear. Click on the EFFECTS tab and check the box that says “Don’t apply auto correction to picture.”

4. Is there anything else I need to know about uploading and printing at Shutterfly?

Yes! Shutterfly has an FAQ page that is really helpful:

Remember to save your layouts as jpg files at 300dpi/RGB color mode.

Once you have uploaded your photos to Shutterfly, please make sure that VividPics (Shutterfly’s auto correct feature) is TURNED OFF.

WOW…so interesting and useful Liz…thank you!

I love your new header Liz!

thanks for the fantastic post! I was wondering why you recommend RGB? are these printed? wouldn’t they be cmyk?

Marieta – Thanks for leaving a comment! RGB is the color profile that Shutterfly uses. Hope that clarifies things!

GREAT info Liz!! I wanted to mention to everyone that the vivid pic feature is applied by default and in my case was applied accidentally and sporadically.. I am working with quality control team there to make this function easier for scrappers like us to turn off permanently! So if you get a book that doesn’t look right call them right away! It should look just as amazing as Liz made it 🙂

Calling all Liz’s readers, I am on a mission!!!

Come over to my blog and make it happen

Love ya Liz!!, you didnt think I would just leave my campaign at Oscraps did ya LOL!!

Just a question and hope someone can help. I redid my pages in photoshop and when I take them into shutterfly some of the pages seem more muted. Any thoughts on how to make them all look the same? Is it something in Shutterfly. I can’t see the vivid pic feature to change it.

Hi Emily – I’ve updated the FAQ’s post with instructions (with screen shots) on how to turn off the vivid function. I hope it helps and please let me know if you have any additional questions. Thanks for posting your inquiry.

Hi – I am fairly new to this but just downloaded your Happy as a Lark Quick album. I would like my left pages to just contain quotes…not Happiness is (based on the content of my photobook). Can I delete the Happiness is and just put in my own text?

Thanks so much.

I came back and referenced this yet again today.
Hopefully my photobook will be soft and elegant like it is supposed to be!
